In 2004, the world production of iron ore exceeded 1,000 million metric tons. In comparison, a comparatively small M-type asteroid with a mean diameter of 1 km could contain more than 2,000 million metric tons of iron-nickel ore, or two to three times the annual production for 2004. The asteroid 16 Psyche is believed to contain 1.7×1019 kg of iron-nickel, which could supply the world production requirement for several million years. Mining the asteroiid belt, "Belt Mining", is a necessary part of human evolution.
Beltminer, Inc. is a research and development company that funds space exploration, and space habitation science. With over 46.7 billion dollars of invested capital, and 11,000 employees worldwide, Beltminer, Inc.’s technology plan consists of three branches of scientific research:
Closed Systems: Energy, Waste, Environmental Vehicles: Transportation, Utility, Surface Resources: Extraction, Refinement, Manufacturing
Annual appropriation for each branch is divided roughly as follows:

Goal: It is the goal of Beltminer, Inc. to be directly responsible for facilitating humankind's future expansion into space. Asteroids provide the minerals, water, and other resources to accomplish this task.

Prospector: Our Prospector vehicle is testament to our ability to harness the collective resources, and the most brilliant scientific minds of our planet, and bring them to bear on a specific task. More than a personal spacecraft, the prospector is a completely enclosed life support system, with the ability to sustain human life for many weeks in a "shirtsleeve" environment. Capable of surface reconnaissance of low-gravity bodies, the Prospector is a purpose-built utility vehicle earning the respected title “Bulldozer of the Asteroid Belt”.
